Creating for Conservation Raises $26,700

Thanks to all the wonderful people involved in Creating for Conservation 2012 - our Exhibition raised $26,700 (AUD) for conservation education at Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust in Zambia.

As the dust settles on the Creating for Conservation Art Exhibition for 2012, I would personally like to thank each and every person involved in the event. From those that exhibited or donated, sponsored or volunteered their time in its creation, attended the opening night or visited on the weekend – each of you have individually contributed in making a difference! 

C4C is as much about raising awareness as it is raising funds. C4C believes that conservation is a celebration…

• Celebrating the African attitude of reuse and recycling
• Celebrating the colours and rhythms of Africa
• Celebrating the wonders of the African wildlife, culture and sense of community
• Celebrating the joy of coming together to make a difference. 

On behalf of C4C, we thank you for celebrating with us. 

This year, with your help, we have raised a record $26,700 in profit! 

We estimate that to bring 10 students from Zambia on a conservation exchange in 2014 to Adelaide will be approximately $65,000, so with you, I stand proud in our joint efforts and contribution towards this amazing opportunity for these children and ultimately the wildlife they live with.

With a record 330 attendees on opening night, gospel tunes from the Zimbabwe Choir bought the Pulteney Grammar School Quad to life.  With Rhino welcome biscuits and a ‘make a difference’ greeting from Pulteney Grammar Conservation Corps students on arrival, guests celebrated with great food and wine. Sharing the conservation vibe Anna Tolan, who had flown; thanks to benefactors, all the way from Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust in Zambia to open the event.

Auctions

All 39 Silent Auction items that we were generously donated by Artists and Volunteers raised a total of $3,913

Our Live Auction, again filled with 100% donated items raised a total of $3,580

How much scat was in that jar?

There were 112 guesses and while not one of those guesses was correct, congratulations to

Edie Bransbury who guessed 825 – only 2 away from the 823 inside the jar. 

Edie wins a double pass into Monarto Zoo and a Giraffe Safari experience – to hand feed the bull giraffe behind the scenes! 

Wear-a-Snare Raffle 

151 snares were sold in our raffle. Congratulation on wearing your snare as that  means the wire is out of circulation and cannot go back into the National Parks of Africa and trap, injure and kill the wildlife. It is a reminder of making a difference and of the importance of conservation education in the protection of wildlife. 

Thanks to Send-a-basket for their generous donation of the wrapping of all the donated raffle prizes.

Opening Night a Huge Success

Thank you to all our supporters in South Australia

Artist Bio: Indiana James

Indiana James

Indiana James was born in Indiana and educated as a teacher and geologist. In 1992 James dropped out of the oil and gas boardroom to become a ‘found-object’ sculptor. Working on Kangaroo Island since 1996, his work has won many award and commissions, including the People’s Choice at the Waterhouse International Art Prize in 2004 and again in 2010.

Artist Bio: Ursula Kiessling

Ursula Kiessling

Born and educated in Hamburg, Germany, Ursula Kiessling and her family came to Australia in 1983. A naive painter, Ursula soon found a way to express her fascination with the vastly different environment of her new home country, in particular the outback, with it unique flora and fauna. Ursula's art has been exhibited in South Australia and interstate. She is a multiple Waterhouse and Heysen Prize finalist. Ursula lives in Adelaide if she is not out bush looking for inspiration

Conservation Statement

“I wholeheartedly support conservation of natural environments. I just hope we do not end up with a totally developed world with pockets of nature in conservation parks, as so hauntingly described by Franz Werfel in his 'Star of the Unborn'. However, I also believe in the power of nature to reinstate itself given a chance. Meanwhile, every effort at conservation is of utmost importance.”

Janet Matthews
Janet Matthews (Dip and Grad Dip Vis Arts, WASF, AGRAF.) is a multi-award winning artist exhibiting regularly in Australia and overseas. Janet’s individual style of combining coloured pencil and graphite has been described as “weaving magic with pencil” Janet’s work is full of beautiful detail, are always of a high standard and reflect her own personality, humour and life experiences. [View Janet's website here]
