Conservation Statement
I am mostly concerned about what I can do personally to make my footprint as small as possible. Sadly, even the most degraded landscape can be a beautiful painting. By observing and depicting these landscapes, I, and perhaps other people, will be reminded of the need for moderation and care for our environment.”

Artist Bio: Cathi Steer

Cathi Steer(Dip. F.A.P., F.R.S.A.S.A.)

Growing up in the South East of South Australia, Cathi spent as much of her childhood as possible drawing and painting the nature that surrounded her.

She graduated from the South Australian School of Art in 1971 and after a period of time when family took priority, she plunged herself back into her art.

Cathi has exhibited in many art shows and has exhibited with the R.S.A.S.A and other art organisations of which she has membership.  She has also combined with other artists to show her work and has had  six solo exhibitions.

Her subjects include landscape, animals, portraiture, and figure painting and drawing,  She uses varied media including oil paints, watercolour, pastel, ink conte and pencil. Always happy to try new and different mediums, she is now working with mixed media on canvas and has recently experimented using oil sticks in the same way as she uses pastels but on a larger scale.

Overseas travels have also resulted in new subject matter and have been an inspiration for exhibitions past and future.

Cathi lives in Coromandel Valley, South Australia, where she spends most of her time working on capturing the images that she loves.

[If you would like to see more of her work please contact her by phone on +61 08 82788062.]

Conservation Statement
"I am increasingly alarmed at the speed with which many species are being wiped out at the hands of mankind.

Our relentless need for resources and land for growing food and housing has chipped away at natural habitats all over the world.

I applaud the change of role that many zoos are pursuing, from being a mere curiosity show to becoming arks for protecting and breeding endangered species.  My hope is that there will still be enough habitat left when the time comes to release these creatures back into the wild.

Education is the key.   When people realize that Man's wellbeing is dependent on a healthy planet then there is hope."

Conservation Statement
"Consumerism in our world leads us away from what is really important in our relationships to nature and the health of the planet. I feel it is  important to help preserve our natural environment and help, in whatever way we can, to conserve and protect the environment and animals around the world. As individuals we can all do our bit and support the organisations such as conservation education programmes like those at Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust and at Zoos SA, so young people learn how to conserve our environment, the wildlife and learn for themselves why it is important.

These organisations and programs that teach children are the key to the future  survival of vegetation and animals, their work is so amazing and doesn't get enough credit! Nature simply is amazing and I hope with my work being exhibited at Creating for Conservation to help these grass roots conservation education initiatives.

One of the most wonderful and educational experiences I have ever had was at Montaro Zoo “As a Zoo Keeper for a Day”
